Overview

This help guide is intended to explain all of the features available through the CPD Noticeboard. It is aimed at people using this site to search for professional development courses offered by the four Liverpool City region universities. It is not intended as a help guide for HEI course administrators wanting information on uploading course details and other administration account facilities.

If you are looking for information about the background to the CPD Noticeboard website then click here.
If you want to contact the CPD Noticeboard website administration team then click here.

The guide is presented in two sections, “Front Page” and “My Homepage – Logged-In”.
The “Front Page” section explains where to find and how to use all of the features available on the front page of the CPD Noticeboard and for which you do not need to be registered or logged-in. Troubleshooting tips are offered as well as advice on the best way of searching to find the type of courses you are looking for.

The “My Homepage – Logged-In” section details all of the additional features available when you login to the CPD Noticeboard with your registered email address and password. Troubleshooting tips are offered as well as advice on the best way of searching to find the type of courses you are looking for.

Front page - orientation

  • browse the complete list of CPD courses currently offered by the four Liverpool City region universities
  • list by university all their CPD courses currently on the Noticeboard
  • enter keywords to search the CPD Noticeboard for keyword-related courses
  • carry out searches by sector (facility not live until Jan 08)
  • find out more about the organisations involved in the CPD Noticeboard and the benefits of registering with the site
  • contact the site and offer feedback
  • (nb no registration/login required for the above facilities)
  • register for enhanced course-search features
  • log-in to your CPD Noticeboard homepage
  • retrieve a forgotten password

1. How to search for courses

There are currently three ways that you can search for courses from the front page without logging-in or registering. From January 2008 a fourth search by sector categories will be live and available to use. These search facilities are found grouped together on the front page, as shown below.

A Keyword Search lets you enter keywords that describe the kind of course you are looking for, searches the complete list of courses on the Noticeboard and returns the courses that are relevant to your keywords in a list that further links to course brochures.

When you List by University you can choose to browse a list of all the courses on the Noticeboard being offered at one of the four Liverpool City region universities. Each course listing links to a course brochure.

When you View All Courses you are presented with a list of all courses currently on the CPD Noticeboard. Each course listing links to a course brochure.

  1. Keyword Search – How to use the Keyword Search box
One of the types of searches that you can carry out from the front page is a keyword search. The Keyword Search box appears with the other search facilities in the top-right of the screen on the front page and then always at the top of the page below the navigation tabs on all subsequent pages. You can use this box to carry out a keyword search any time and from any page you like.

A keyword is a word that simply describes the particular topic for which you are interested in finding a course. For example, someone interested in management training could type ‘management’ in this box and click the ‘go’ button. Any courses with a relevance to management skills will then be displayed in a list such as this example below.

    Example Keyword Search results page
You can then click on any of the course titles to see a full brochure of details about that course from the institution offering it and this includes full contact details. To see an example course brochure page click here.

    Keyword Search tips
You can search again by typing another keyword in the search box. You can type more than one search keyword. If you have not found a suitable course and are entering very specific keywords, try entering a more general keyword that describes the kind of course you are looking for. If you still don’t find a course suitable for your needs, you could try browsing the entire list of courses or list by university the courses being run at each institution.

  2. List by University – How to use the List by University dropdown list
If you want to see all of the courses being offered by just one of the four Liverpool City region universities, then use the dropdown list box shown here to find the university you are interested in and click the ‘GO’ button. You will then see a list of all the courses on the Noticeboard being offered by that university. Course titles can be clicked on to display full details and contact information for that course on a separate brochure page.

The four Liverpool City region universities are:
    Liverpool JMU
    University of Liverpool
    Liverpool Hope University
    Edge Hill University.

  3. View all courses – How to use the View all courses list
There are two ways to view a list of all the courses currently on the Noticeboard. The first method is to click the “view all courses” button on the front page. Clicking this button will display all courses from each of the four universities and is listed in date order.

The alternative method, which does not require you to be on the front page, is to click on the “view all courses” tab in the navigation bar at the top of the page, anytime, as shown highlighted in red here.

Clicking this tab will again display all courses from each of the four universities and listed in date order. The complete list can be browsed and course titles can be clicked on to display full details and contact information for that course on a separate brochure page.

  4. Search by Category – How to use the Search by category dropdown list

2. How to view events – Accessing the events list

There is another button grouped with the search facilities which can be clicked-on to view all the events being run by the four universities.

This list is not searchable by keyword but you can browse and click on any event title to see full details and contact information for that event on a separate brochure page.
You can also access the events list any time, from any page, through the “events” tab, shown below and highlighted in red.

Clicking this tab will again bring up a list of all the events being run by each of the four universities.

3. How to register with the CPD Noticeboard – Registration button explained

You don’t need to register or log in if you just want to list courses by university, browse the full list of courses, or enter a keyword(s) into the search box to find any relevant courses currently being offered at the universities. Click the links to get more help on these facilities.

If you are not yet registered with CPD Noticeboard and you want to access the additional features that doing so allows (listed in the screenshot below)

  1. How to complete the registration form - Registration form explained
Clicking the “Register” button begins the registration process which is very quick and for which the only details you need are a valid email address that you are happy to use for this site and to provide a password that you will remember. The email address is used to send you course alerts whenever courses you have indicated as being important to you on your homepage are added to the CPD Noticeboard.

When you click the “Register” button you will be taken to the registration screen seen below.

Enter you email address, and then carefully type your chosen password twice. We ask you to enter your password twice as a check that you have entered exactly the password that you want. Please note that both the email and the password boxes are case-sensitive.

4. How to Log in to the CPD Noticeboard – Login Box explained

  2. Login problems – forgotten password – Troubleshooting tips
If you have forgotten your password, or want to check to make sure you are typing it in correctly, then click the link “Forgotten your password” which you will find on the login page underneath the password box. You will see the following screen.

This will send an email containing your password to the address that you registered with CPD Noticeboard. Check you have typed your email address correctly in the first instance, then check any other email addresses that you have or try registering again.
